Communicycle Aliquippa

Lee Montanari

Communicycle Aliquippa is an outreach ministry partnership of several local churches / organizations We welcome any other area church or Christian organization to join our partnership.

The History – Communicycle Aliquippa grew out of a mission project in September 2011. While building a handicapped ramp for an Aliquippa woman, one of her grandchildren asked us to fix his bike. We took it home, got a few new parts and rebuilt the bike, and he was happily racing around the neighborhood again. The next night another boy asked us to fix his bike. As we packed up the trucks that night, we talked about how many more people we could help, and build relationships with, through a bike program.

The Purpose – Communicycle Aliquippa is a Christian ministry developed to build relationships through the bikes. At the bike shop, or in the neighborhoods we visit, you see adults, teens, and children working together to repair their bikes, while spending time talking, praying, and learning about each other. We connect with others as the Body of Christ through this time, and through the volunteer hours that youth and adults devote when working to earn a bike from the program.

The Bikes and How You Can Help – All bikes, parts and repairs are available to the community at no cost. Everyone is welcome to visit our events to repair their bike, earn a bike through volunteering in their community, or just to see what we’re all about. We accept donations of bikes and parts (in any condition - as we get nearly all of our repair parts by recycling parts from bikes that can no longer be ridden). You can also help by volunteering with bikes or outreach, and by supporting our scrap metal collections (our primary fundraising method).

The Partnership – Jesus affirmed the 2 greatest commandments are – first, to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind; & second, to love your neighbor as yourself.

We’d love to add more individuals and Aliquippa churches to the partnership – to deepen the outreach into all Aliquippa neighborhoods. This can include events at your church, or earning bikes through a program focused on the youth in your church & neighborhood.
